Cheese 201: Cheese & Nutrition Online

  • Second Mouse Cheese Shop 357 Manville Road Pleasantville United States (map)

At Second Mouse Cheese, we believe whole-heartedly that food is fuel AND pleasure. It is NEVER an enemy nor should the simple act of feeding ourselves ever be considered a sin.

Most of us grew up with the concept that the higher the fat content, the more it should be avoided. We at Second Mouse (alongside an army of Registered Dietitian Nutritionists) beg to differ. What if our nutrients were more concentrated? What if we ate a well-balanced diet, designed around foods that have traceable sources and simple methods of productions? What if we ate the stuff that could (at least, in theory) be made right from our own land, and in our own kitchens? If we ate slowly and treasured the moments? If we were proud of what was on our plates?

Would that change our skewed perspective on what’s good for us? Let’s find out!

Join Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (and regular Second Mouse customer!) Jenna Lebowich, MS, RDN, CDN, and Second Mouse Cheese Founder & Owner Ivy Ronquillo. Together, they’ll discuss the density of cheese nutrition, as well as its digestive and disease-fighting bonus points. We’ll also present what makes for a reasonable serving size as well as several techniques for turning a rich, powerful wedge of energy into a delightful, well-balanced, snack, side, enhancer or main-course. Be prepared for several cheese and produce or grain combinations. We’ll provide the food and wine and instruction while you sit, eat and learn how we can be better to ourselves, our bodies and our peace of mind by simplifying and simply enjoying.

Kits will can be picked up on the day of the event at Second Mouse Cheese Shop, and will include cheese, some appetizer-sized prepared foods, as well as wine. Mocktails are available for those who do not consume alcohol. This class will be vegetarian, but not necessarily gluten-free. Please alert us if you have any concerns regarding food sensitivities.
